CARNIVALENTINES
Friday 14 Feb - 10pm-6am // Studio 338, London
Fox&Badge welcome you to emerge with joy & passion from the doldrums of Winter to embrace the first glimmers of Spring, communion, connection - & Carnival! Our pageant merges the old pagan/Christian festival of love, Valentines, with the seasonal post-harvest, pre-Lent spirit of Carnival, where we explode with festivity and abandon.
Traditionally food stocks, energy and morale were all running low before Spring shoots arrive in time to nourish us; our reconvergence warms the cold vaults of the slumbering city, and the chambers of our hearts. We warmly welcome you to our reversal ritual of release, summoning back the sun; a Dionysian rite of passage where we are all reborn; a rebellion against our confinement, and a celebration of our collective creativity and eros; our energetic alignment; our passion for connection and transcendence.
“We came in the wind of the carnival. A wind of change, or promises. The merry wind, the magical wind, making March hares of everyone... rushing towards summer in a frenzy of exuberance.” — Joanne Harris
Our Carnival learns from the best, seeking inspiration from across the world, with a special focus on Brazil - the great Land of Carnival - and the extraordinary Rio Carnival - which even began with sploshing!
Crowds ran amok amidst the entrudos, throwing flour and milk on each other. Our concurrent Valentines celebrations emerged from Lupercalia, where the Luperci (brothers of the wolf; almost fox) priests would whip women with animal hides to promote health and fertility.
Our event celebrates all this, and most of all the collective, communal forms of non-divisive love, and those sweet ties that bond us all, no matter what our relationship status.
"Love is the whole thing. We are only pieces." —Rumi
In these celebrations, we find a truth our ancestors knew well: that sexuality and spirituality flow from the same sacred source. That under the mask, we can be our truest selves (as the Venetians know so well). That the mask and costume, no matter how thin, enable entirely new adventure; and in that temporary chaos, we discover lasting communion.
Carnival meant goodbye to meat (carne-vale) - but here let’s say hello to the flesh of new friends, and the vast rich cultural history of pleasure and excess.
For one night, we invite you to descend deep into this tradition of transcendent excess, where fetish meets festival, kink meets carnival, the profound mingles with the profane, and we explore that liminal space where pleasure becomes prayer; surrender becomes strength; and we discover delight and divinity in the deepest collective pleasure.
"If it is true that there are as many minds as there are heads, then there are as many kinds of love as there are hearts." —Leo Tolstoy, Anna Karenina

CARNAL CARNIVAL
Flaunt your Flesh! Share your Skin; your carnal carnival essence! Give up clothes for Lent! After a long cold winter, we welcome your warmth and glory.
Sport feathers galore; be a beautiful (love)bird, alighting from afar.
Dare to wear enormous, glorious headdresses & crowns, shoulders and wings, and feathered rigs so large they puncture the skies!
Bring bare midriffs and bikinis; kinky cups and non-existent thongs & miniscule shorts; skimpy straps & flashy harnesses; beads & tassels, sequins & sparkles, (whatever your gender); if it’s not way too much, it’s not remotely enough. And top it all off with wild, joyful, colourful makeup and bodypaint!
And as always - FETISH; sas made even sexier, with lashings of latex, corsets and unrestrained use of restraints ;)
COLOURS: we gently ask if people can focus and choose single or dual colours on the spectrum - rather than them ALL…. If you had to pick just 1 colour- make it YELLOW - the colour of the returning sun
SIZE: your choice is very much between ALL or NOTHING - micro nothingness, where you flaunt all your glory amidst a skimpy scatter of just a few beads - or massive room-sizes wings and rigs that almost seem to offer your fellow revellers loving refuge ;)
GENDER is all your to play for and with; all birds have feathers; all sexes are gems, and deserve to flaunt them.
CHARACTER: carnival queen; kinky catholic; voodoo priest; passionate passista; dungeon dancer - which form or reverence and belief will you adopt?
INSPIRATION: Our prime inspiration comes from the world's largest Carnival - Rio, which assembles an astonishing 2 million revellers from all around the world. We are inspired by them because they do it best; we seek to learn from them. They embody the greatest joy and panache.
"Where there is love there is life." –Mahatma Gandhi
The Rio Carnival is a deep syncretic fusion of all kinds of countries, cultures and histories, with a common thread that runs through all our lives. Please dress to impress - and also to respect; investigate and learn as you create. Be inspired by an extraordinary range of living cultures with enormous depths and dignity.

This is a high-production, co-created arts & fetish event. We love sexy, wild creativity. We love intricate, elegant, crafted costumes. We especially love stuff you carefully and lovingly made; look out for our Costume Workshop, which we’ll hold a fortnight before the event.
Absolutely NO daywear, streetwear, businesswear, officewear, banal-wear, or anything off-theme will be allowed. NO T-shirts, shirts, slacks, sneakers - or anything ordinary you’d just wear down the street. If you are trying to figure out how to make this as easy and basic as possible, this is not the event for you.
“Through eyelet holes I watched the crowd / Rain of confetti fling;
Their joy is lush, their laughter loud, / For Carnival is King.”
— Robert William Service

To ensure the best experience for all guests, we ask that you and your guest(s) read and agree to our Code & Culture (in particular, the centrality of consent) before buying your ticket.
-
We celebrate expression over restriction, and take and share photographs of our nights. We always have several amazing professional photographers and videographers at our events to capture some of the magical moments we can’t possibly all experience at once. It is not practical or implementable for our crew to ask every guest in our many vast rooms for their explicit consent; please feel entitled to tell any photographers if you do not want to be filmed or photographed. Images of the night will be shared discreetly on our channels. We will of course instantly honour the request for removal or blurring of any photos you are not comfortable with; your privacy is paramount.
We kindly request our guests to leave their phones to the side as much as possible, not film the night, and simply be fully present; we will share all our beautiful professional photos & videos with our community immediately after the event. There are strictly no photos allowed in dungeons or of any intimate acts. If in doubt, ask. Please only photograph with the utmost consideration, awareness and respect.

We want to make our events as accessible as possible; to help us do this please email any questions and access requirements to foxandbadge@gmail.com or contact Studio 338 at (0)333 444 4338. We will be as accommodating as possible. If you purchase a ticket to one of our events and it is not possible for you to queue, please email us to arrange faster access in advance.
If you notify the venue prior to your arrival, disabled parking spots can be arranged in the building’s car park. North Greenwich tube station offers step-free access from train to street and just over half a mile away from the club.

There are disabled toilets on the ground floor.
