VERSAILLES

  Saturday 14 Sept 2024 - 9:30pm-6am // Electric Brixton, London

Fox&Badge cordially invite you to surrender to a fantasy world of opulence and extravagance, exquisite fashions and decadent delights, scandalous intrigues and secret liaisons; grand balls, spectacular soirées - with whispers of revolution in the halls…

After our recent worship of Isis, Osiris and Ra in the temples of Ancient Egypt, we turn from the Sun GOD to the Sun KING, re-examining the legacy of the greatest party playground the world has ever seen.

Come with us as we rewrite the history of France’s legendary Palace of Pleasure: VERSAILLES.

“Dreams weigh nothing.” (Marie Antoinette)

     YOUR SOVEREIGN SOJOURN

Versailles was a landscape as much as a building, symbol and idea; a space for exploration; a network of moments. It led to Pleasure Gardens throughout the world, and eventually to the modern public spaces as we know today; happily, private privilege gave way to public pleasure.

We will thus be transforming the Theatre into a sequence of sensual spaces for spectacle & surprise, fantasy & frolics.

Arrive in style, announced by our court caller, & explore:

  • our monumental Ballroom, suffused with spectacle

  • our curtained Boudoirs, enticing entwinement

  • our Royal Boxes - repositories of regal secrets

  • our deSade Dungeon, channelling your chastisement

  • our Chapel of devotion, reverence, and confession

  • our Garden & Grotto & Temple of Love

  • our extravagant decor and opulent ornament

  • our opulent audio, and immersive lighting and lasers and video

  • our exquisite ensemble of DJs & monarchial musicians*, purveying the finest in driving melodic techno

  • our fountain  of fabulous performers, bursting with fire and energy

  • our army of aristocratic aerialists, spinning through the skies above you

  • our suite of sensualists & tantrics, devoted to your regal flesh

  • our retinue of immersives & interactives, curating your journey

  • our cortege of CAKE & patisseries of pleasure! & ohhh so much more…

Boudoir de Tantra

Book your space at our intimate tantra space to learn the arts of connection, sensuality, and pleasure. 40 minute sessions run from 20 past the hour, every hour until 4am. Couples and singles welcome. Book here.

Our events offer rare moments to celebrate collective energy. As with Heaven, Brixton Electric have no licence for play or penetration, but all other forms of courtly intimacy are welcomed and encouraged <3

“Take care of the luxuries and the necessities will take care of themselves.” (Dorothy Parker)

        THE LINEUP

In honour of the primacy of music at Versailles (Louis XIV was an accomplished harpist & musician), this will be our 1st almost-all-live event - with over half our DJs playing live instruments & collaborating with musicians.

We’re delighted to finally welcome the virtuoso violinist/DJ Seth Schwarz to headline (the perfect event for him) after our earlier collaborations at the Burn, accompanied by a stellar international team of sonic talent.

DRESS CODE: kinky regal OPULENCE

+ fetishistic ELEGANCE

King or Queen; duke or duchess; marquis or mistress, courtier or courtesan, prince or parvenu, we welcome your full and glorious expression, and uninhibited extravagance. Ain’t no wig high enough! We invite:

  • lavish locks & wild, wonderful wigs - the higher the better! Towering structures depicting scenes & stories, decked with ribbons, flowers, dolls, animals, trinkets - & boats!

  • kinky corsets, busty brocaded bodices - all trimmed with ruffles, lace, & flounces

  • your Royal Harnesses

  • crinoline cages, hooped skirts, drool-worthy dresses & party panniers

  • elegant undergarments & libidinous lingerie;  sheer petticoats, seductive stockings & gorgeous garters

  • lofty tight-fitting heels, heaving with buckles, bows & florals

  • whites & creams, baby pinks & blues; a pantheon of pastels

  • pearls & jewels, fans & feathers & any manner of other accessories - especially anything that might curry favour with your fellow courtiers ;)

If in doubt, err on the side of exposure. It’s hard to dance in heavy dresses & doublets & jackets. Share your regal landscapes! Release the royal bush! :))

Duchesse de Polignac: [looking at a scandalous pamphlet] And here you're having an orgy with quite a big group. I think I'm here sucking your toes.

Marie-Antoinette: Don't they ever tire of these ridiculous stories?

Duchesse de Polignac: Oh, and they say you gave Thomas Jefferson a special tour of your gardens. Is Jefferson admiring the royal bush?

(From the Marie Antoinette film by Sofia Coppola)

This is a high-production, co-created arts & fetish event. We love sexy, wild creativity. We love intricate, elegant, crafted costumes. We especially love stuff you carefully and lovingly made; look out for our Costume Workshop, which we’ll hold a fortnight before the event.

Be bold and expressive and self-loving. You are the gift. Be generous :) Costume-wise, you simply cannot go too far. If in doubt, ask (email us at foxandbadge+dresscode@gmail.com).

Absolutely NO daywear, streetwear, businesswear, officewear, banal-wear, or anything off-theme will be allowed. NO T-shirts, shirts, slacks, sneakers - or anything ordinary you’d just wear down the street. If you are trying to figure out how to make this as easy and basic as possible, this is not the event for you.

Our Palace Guards will be checking costumes on entry & throughout the venue, lovingly but strictly upholding standards to protect our ecosystem. They’ll do everything possible to enable you to enter, but if you come inappropriately dressed, your only chance of entry will be flaunting the King’s (or Emperor’s) New Clothes, after a brief sojourn behind bars at our mini-Bastille :)

  Electric Brixton   —

Versailles was Theatre - and where better than an old ornate theatre to explore this spectacle?

This is our first event where almost all of our extraordinary artists & musicians will be playing live sets with live instruments, so we’re delighted to be working with one of London’s premiere gig venues, Brixton Electric, which we’ll be totally transforming into a true Palace of Pleasure. It was at one time even called The Regal, designed to match the splendour of the adjacent Town Hall; you can literally reach out and caress the opulent bodies encased in its ornament.

It has the biggest, widest, deepest, tallest stage we’ve ever worked with (greater even than Marie Antoinette’s Queen’s Theatre at Versailles), which we’ll be expanding into a vast orgasmic spectacle, replete with wild and extravagant aerial and fire performances, whilst secret immersive interactions explode across the floors and balconies above. Look out for the largest 4-poster bed in London - just for you!

Nearby Electric Avenue was trail-blazing - the first British market street to be lit by electric lights in 1888, a year before the French completed the Eiffel Tower to commemorate the Revolution (which wouldn’t electrify til the turn of the Millenium). It was also the epicentre of a later revolution in British politics with the Brixton Riots a century later, inspiring Eddy Grant’s chart-topping song of the same name, and playing its part in the crucial evolution towards change & social justice.

If Versailles symbolised the archaic centrality of an absolute monarch - the epitome of the VIP culture we deplore - we tear down the barriers and release all our spaces and stages to the people. Ascend and storm the Royal Boxes either side of the stages for a special treat :)

“The pyramids were built for pharaohs on the happy theory that they could take their stuff with them. Versailles was built for kings on the theory that they should live surrounded by the finest stuff. The Mall of America is built on the premise that we should all be able to afford this stuff. It may be a shallow culture, but it's by-God democratic.” (Molly Ivins)

  • To ensure the best experience for all guests, we ask that you and your guest(s) read and agree to our Code & Culture (in particular, the centrality of consent) before buying your ticket.

  • We celebrate expression over restriction, and take and share photographs of our nights. We always have several amazing professional photographers and videographers at our events to capture some of the magical moments we can’t possibly all experience at once. It is not practical or implementable for our crew to ask every guest in our many vast rooms for their explicit consent; please feel entitled to tell any photographers if you do not want to be filmed or photographed. Images of the night will be shared discreetly on our channels. We will of course instantly honour the request for removal or blurring of any photos you are not comfortable with; your privacy is paramount.

We kindly request our guests to leave their phones to the side as much as possible, not film the night, and simply be fully present; we will share all our beautiful professional photos & videos with our community immediately after the event. There are strictly no photos allowed in dungeons or of any intimate acts. If in doubt, ask. Please only photograph with the utmost consideration, awareness and respect.

  • We want to make our events as accessible as possible; to help us do this please email any questions and access requirements to foxandbadge@gmail.com. We will be as accommodating as possible. If you purchase a ticket to one of our events and it is not possible for you to queue, please email us to arrange faster access in advance.

Electric Brixton has disabled access in the lower part of the venue. You can contact them with specific queries on access at 0207 274 2290.

Due to the shape of existing buildings and the immersive nature of our events, we may have areas that are unsuitable for those with specific access requirements.
