August Meetup: Intro to Shibari

  • The Island Queen 87 Noel Road London, England, N1 8HD United Kingdom (map)

——August Meetup——

   INTRO TO SHIBARI

We love shibari. Not only is it an incredible form of artistic expression and aesthetics but what a profound exploration of surrender, intimacy, trust and patience. It always features prominently at our events (both as performances and guest experiences) so we’re thrilled to be hosting our own shibari workshop for our next meetup!

We’ll be guided by Ropework_London who we met by chance at Noisily Festival when he came to our tent and beautifully and generously offered to tie any curious visitors who wanted to experience it.

WHAT YOU’LL EXPERIENCE

In this workshop Ropework_London will be:

  • Offering some brief context on the history of shibari (from Japanese torture method to cathartic kink experience)

  • Demonstrating basic ties and knots on his model and partner, Jade

  • Guiding us in hands-on practice on ourselves and partners where we'll learn to create beautiful patterns and secure bindings

WHO SHOULD COME?

This meetup is open to anyone whether you’ve attended one of our large events or not; and for singles or pairs who’d like to learn and experiment together. No prior tying experience needed :)

We’ll run the workshop from 7:30-9 pm followed by time to mix and mingle until 10:30.

ABOUT THE FACILITATOR

Ropework_London has been a very passionate practitioner of BDSM for nearly 20 years; he discovered Shibari as a wonderful and deeply connective means of restraint and play early on, and never stopped learning more. He has run workshops on a wide range of BDSM themes for many years, and he particularly loves opening up new experiences and possibilities to people who have a hunch that they might like this sort of thing.

Ropework's partner, Jade, fell in love with rope after a fortuitous chance meeting with him, and has been happy in ropes ever since. She loves the paradoxical sense of liberation that being tied up gives her, and how it has helped her explore her psyche and sexuality.

Shibari can mean very different things to different people, and everyone has their own approach. Ropework embeds his practice in BDSM and kinky play, rather than developing it as an art form in its own right. Therefore he and Jade will focus the workshop not only on the techniques of rope bondage, but also on communication, play, expectations, and behaviours of partners with each other.
