After the Great War, the ‘20s Roared and Swung - ushering in a Golden Age of Radio and Cinema, Art & Architecture. Culture blossomed; the avant-garde thrived; Expressionism and Experimentalism were everywhere. It heralded a revolution across both Europe and America as dresses and hairstyles shortened; nights lengthened; attitudes loosened; culture liberated - and new attitudes to gender and sexuality flourished. Freed from an authoritarianism, the late Weimar era merged liberal ideas, with new forms of expression - and hedonism. Berlin became a hotbed of homosexuality, a mecca for cross dressers and transsexuals, and hosted the world’s first ever male-to-female surgery.

The zeitgeist was fast-paced, wild, thrilling, disruptive and deeply formative;  it gave birth to the modern world we know today - and to the world we have not yet become.
