Community Maker’s Night: Vikings

CREATIVITY is at the heart of everything we stand for & love.

You as a community have consistently made & created the most beautiful and inspirational costumes (and moments and connections), that in turn continue to inspire us to create in return. We see our events as one huge creative & co-created pageant - an opportunity for all of us to unleash the artist & maker within.

COSTUMES enable us to project an alternative self; a new us.

The word for our “personality” derives etymologically from the Greek word for mask; it is rooted in the ideas of performance, projection, and public perception. We are the roles we choose to play. Creative costume allows us to momentarily disrupt and reconfigure this narrative - and inhabit a new self; another step in each of our ongoing transformations through life.

MAKING is the act that allows us to contribute towards the feast and pageant.

The act that shifts us from head to heart; from mind to body. Together we can all make a world so much more beautiful, powerful and alluring than what our tiny Fox&Badge team (no matter how amazing they are) could achieve alone. Our collaborative alignment unleashes unprecedented synergetic potential, and activates our congregation - transforming us from consumers to producers, each playing our crucial role.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Community Maker’s Night and Headdress Making Workshop in preparation our Viking celebration next week! You are incredible.

Cozy, buzz-y and bright, last night was one of my favourite Fox&Badge events to date 💕

We were a little nervous about fitting all the projects for makers night and headdress workshop in one space (especially painting and sawing in a pub!) but the atmosphere was truly magical. I was so touched by the amount of love in the room; the purity, laughter and joy, and the insanely amazing artists teaching, playing and sharing their skills through these projects. It was so wonderful to meet all of you! A huge thank you to all who came! (And the many makers who have been working on projects behind the scenes who couldn’t come).

Making things together is truly bonding and feels like such a core part of what this community is all about. I love it and feel so grateful to be part of it. Can’t wait for Friday’s reunion and seeing all these creations in action 😉❤️

MAKERS NIGHT INFO

Let's co-create!

Creatives, crafters and makers are all invited to come help fashion some of the beautiful pieces we’ll be using to transform The Steel Yard into a Viking paradise next Friday night.

We have an amazing team and some incredible pieces planned to make, and welcome others to come join and help co-create this giant collaborative artwork. It's a great chance to make useful, beautiful stuff - as well as make new friends :)

We’ll be at the gorgeous Alpaca pub in Islington N1, which serves great food & craft beer.

HEADRESS WORKSHOP INFO

Next Tuesday 14th March, to accompany the VIKINGS event, we return to running the 1st costume workshop we’ve run since RELIGION, exploring ways to make simple but effective pagan-inspired Viking crowns and headdresses from twigs, branches and DIY lightweight antlers.

Together we will be creating our own personalised antlers/crown/headdress from foraged twigs or DIY antlers. We will provide headbands, guidance, suggestions, moral support and some basic fixing materials (hot glue, wire, tape, twine, etc.).

We ask for you to bring along some twigs, small branches, (foam antlers if you have them :)), and any fixing materials or tools you have that might come in handy (especially scissors, wire cutters, hot glue guns, etc.). If you don’t have anything to bring along don’t worry; we’ll provide some stuff - we just can’t provide tools for everybody.

If you also have any crafting materials that could be useful (e.g. floristry / craft / grapevine / rustic wire, twine, headbands, dried twigs/flowers, etc), & that you’re happy to bring and share, that would be amazing, and all would be gratefully received.

Feel free to also bring chains and jewels and string & wool & anything awesomely, Vikingly reverential with which to pimp your majesty ;)

More info is at https://buytickets.at/foxandbadge/872811; please book & come join us <3

If you’d like to get involved with decor or making for Vikings or any of our other events, please get in touch :)
